El Lagarto opened it's doors in 1996 as a late-night beach bar. In 1998, we began serving meat and potatoes on a simple bonfire grill. As the restaurant's popularity grew, we added more and more options to our menu, including fish, seafood, and vegetables. The increase in clientele each night made it necessary to build a bigger grill. That's when we decided to design our own one-of-a-kind wood-burning grill. El Lagarto Restaurant features high quality meats from animals raised with specialized care in the foothills of Volcan Arénal in Costa Rica. Our cows are given individual attention - assuring healthy lifestyles and clean pastures for grazing. They are raised naturally and are free of hormones, chemicals, and antibiotics.
